At just 24 weeks, weighing only 14.5 ounces and 10.5 inches long, Miss Myrtle Marie Scott made her debut into this world on October 17th, 2025. Around 20 weeks, Myrtle was diagnosed with Severe Fetal Growth restriction, meaning she was significantly smaller than expected. At 23 weeks, Cassie (mom) was hospitalized and diagnosed with Severe Preeclampsia. For both Myrtle and Mom’s safety, doctors determined that they needed to deliver, leading to Myrtle joining us 16 weeks early. At this premature age, eyes aren’t open, skin is very thin, and babies’ lungs are not completely developed, needing a ventilating tube to help her breathe. Myrtle is currently being fed mom’s milk, through a feeding tube. Tremendously helping her get the nutrients she needs. Though Myrtle has shown great improvement since birth, the road ahead is long for the Scott family. She will be in the NICU at least until she has reached 37 weeks gestation (about the end of January) and possibly longer. Mom and Dad are travelling every day to Iowa City to be there to spend time with Miss Myrtle as she grows. The proceeds from this event will benefit the Scott family and help support them through this unanticipated travel, living and medical expenses.
