Dick Dale, the renowned “king of the surf guitar,” was one of the founding fathers of the ‘60s surf music craze that swept a generation He developed a distinctive rapid picking technique and a resonant, amplified sound in collaboration with Leo Fender of Fender musical instruments. Dale’s innovative style influenced prominent bands such as the Beach Boys and the Trashmen, and his characteristic reverb remains an inspiration across various musical genres, including punk and metal.
His career spanned decades, from the first surf rock instrumental "Let's Go Trippin'," to a later resurgence thanks to Quentin Tarantino's use of his signature song, "Misirlou," in Pulp Fiction. Dale passed away in 2019 following health complications.
His legacy is continued by his son, Jimmy Dale, who resides in Joshua Tree, California. Jimmy plays guitar in his own band K*ll Jill — a fusion of heavy rock and modern punk with an undeniable dose of the surf sound he grew up on.
Additionally, Jimmy keeps the spirit of his father alive through performances with the Jimmy Dale Trio, playing sets of his dad’s reverb drenched music.
