Let’s celebrate a Canadian jazz legend with dancing, music, and community spirit!
📅 Date: Friday, August 15, 2025
🕕 Time: 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM(ish)
📍 Location: Oscar Peterson Statue (Corner of Elgin & Albert, in front of the NAC)
🎽 Dress Code: Add a splash of purple (Oscar Peterson’s favourite colour!)
You're invited to a joyful, jazz-filled evening honouring Oscar Peterson on what would have been his 100th birthday!
Before our usual OSDS Summer Swing Night, we’ll gather at his statue for a tribute celebration featuring social dancing and a short performance you can take part in.
💃 Social dancing to Oscar’s iconic music
🎭 A short, collaborative performance (open to all levels!)
🎶 Great vibes and a heartfelt celebration of one of Canada’s greatest musicians
Afterward, we’ll stroll together to OSDS Summer Swing Night at 174 Wilbrod Street to keep the dancing going!
📝 Tribute Party Details
6:00 PM: Arrive at the Oscar Peterson statue for casual social dancing
6:45 PM: Filming of the performance begins
The routine will be simple and mostly improvised, no stress, just fun!
Expect easy steps like step-touches, Suzie-Qs, apple jacks, triple steps, and shim-sham stomps. Our OSDS Executive, Kofi, will share some guiding moves
Partner dancing is welcome and encouraged
The song is about 3 minutes long
All performers will get a video copy to share online, don’t forget to tag Oscar Peterson!
Bring your friends, whether they want to dance or just cheer us on
After the tribute, we’ll walk over together to St Joseph’s Parish basement (174 Wilbrod St) for more dancing at the Ottawa Summer Swing 2025!
