Hike Mt. Bonomine and Shirayazawa Valley Trail

This hike is subject to cancelation due to rain - but please stay tuned for updates. We are still a go - but this hike is vulnerable to slippage when wet.

Last year was our first time to do this hike and while it was medium to difficult it ranked as one of our most beautiful hikes. It is known for a waterfalls and lake as our views while hiking Mt Bonomine and the local valley. We will have an optional onsen at the end of the hike just before returning to home. This is a medium to difficult level hike. Hiking shoes or boots (with good gripping soles) are mandatory along with a hiking stick. There will be a few moments where we are climbing using ropes and chains that have been installed along the trail.

We will meet at Seibu Ikebekuro Line Semi Express from Ikebekuro station for an 8:10am departure arriving at Hanno station at 9:03am. We will then take a 40 minute bus ride from Hanno station at 9:13am so we can then start our hike at 9:52am

We will be climbing a total of 720meters for a total of 5 hours in motion. So, the hike essentially will be done by 3:30pm or 4pm. At that point we will take an optional onsen - but will need to depart on a bus around 5:08 to go back to Hanno station.

As per usual, please bring sun screen, hat, bento and at least 2 liters of water. Hiking boots with good grip soles and hiking stick are highly recommended. To repeat again: the waterfall areas can sometimes be slippery to walk on.

Given the heat and humidity - if you are of any concern about being able to handle the weather - please choose to stay safe and home. Hiking insurance is suggested but not mandatory.
