EFFECTS

B-movie expert A.C. Nicholas hosts a screening of the film Effects. In 1979, some of George Romero's collaborators, like Dusty Nelson, John Harrison, Pat Buba, Joseph Pilato, and Tom Savini, got together to make this shot-in-Pittsburgh film about a filmmaker whose low-budget horror film might, unbeknownst to its cast and crew, actually be a snuff film. It was a meta, "elevated" horror film long before A24 was around. Unfortunately, the company that distributed Effects went bankrupt, and outside of a couple of theatrical showings, the film remained unseen for decades. But the folks at the American Genre Film Archive (AGFA) rescued the only existing 35mm print and remastered this once-lost film, and now the Babylon Kino brings it to you.
