Miss Frances Benjamin Johnston (1864-1952) Makes a Business of Photographic Illustration with Ellen Daugherty, Assistant Curator, Dixon Gallery and Gardens

Ellen Daugherty holds a PhD in art history from the University of Virginia. Her specialties include American art, modernism, the history of photography, and public monuments. Before joining the Dixon in 2023, Ellen taught for many years at local colleges and universities, including 14 years at the Memphis College of Art. She also taught at Rhodes College and as the 2019-2020 Hohenberg Chair of Excellence in Art History at the University of Memphis. In her copious spare time, Ellen is also an Irish-style fiddler, crocheter, and baker.
