The Singing Village: A Laboratory of Vocal Improvisation
For Vocalists, Music Educators and Jazz Singers

Join us for a dynamic day of spontaneous collective singing - an immersive exploration of the rich possibilities within vocal improvisation. This experiential workshop is designed for vocalists and music teachers who wish to deepen their practice, expand their creative vocabulary, and explore new ways of making music in the moment.

Throughout the day, we will explore diverse entry points into vocal improvisation, ranging from folkloric and ancestral traditions to contemporary and experimental approaches. Together, we’ll navigate groove and harmony based frameworks, as well as free form pieces that incorporate unconventional melodic and rhythmic elements.

A key focus will be on expressive voice work - creating vocal landscapes, textures, and extended techniques that stretch beyond the familiar, helping you unlock a broader palette of vocal colours and emotional range.

You will also be introduced to adaptable tools for shaping flexible musical structures - tools that can support soloists and encourage group cohesion, integrating movement, space, and body awareness. These methods are applicable both in personal artistic development and in educational settings, offering new ways to engage choirs, vocal ensembles, and classroom music groups in the art of improvisation.
