For the sixth consecutive year, the Goethe-Institut Cyprus presents its Sommerkino with a selection of films from Germany.
The selected films for the upcoming edition belong to the same genre: Coming-of-Age — and all but one play in Berlin.
Join us for the ultimate summer nights in the city in the beautiful garden of the Goethe-Institut with relaxing lounge chairs, a big screen and the famous Ledra Palace Hotel as a backdrop, while each film and their protagonists take us on a different cinematic journey.
Cocoon // Leonie Krippendorff // 2020
The fleeting intensity of a queer coming-of-age against the vibrant backdrop of multicultural Berlin.
Berlin-Kreuzberg in the sweltering summer. 14-year-old Nora quietly observes the world around her—parties, friendships, family, and the chaotic beauty of adolescence. She meets the self-assured Romy, and something inside her begins to shift. Caught between childhood and adulthood, Nora experiences many firsts: Her first love, heartbreak, and a growing sense of self—emerging from her cocoon into something new. A tender portrayal of youth and a transformation captured with warmth.
