Jeff and Jon Sears mentioned that they would like some memorabilia from Rockafellas’ for display at Jake’s. We commissioned a piece for that purpose from Rob Barge that is an Homage to the many talented Artists that graced our stage. We feel it celebrates the rich Live Music scene in Columbia of the 80s and 90s... staff, artists, clubgoers. The piece will be unveiled at 7:00 on the 28th. We hope you will take a moment to come by and share a beer and some memories. The doors open at 6 and there will be no cover.
Our story so far: In 1984, we opened Rockafellas because Greenstreets had closed. I left the Peddler to manage the club and Partner Scott Padgett began booking the club. We eventually picked up most of the old bands from Greenstreets, Striders, The Beat, Grow Café, and others. Eddie did his Wild Life Mondays and Carl threw in some shows from Manifest Records. WUSC and the commercial stations in towns pitched in. Frank Smoak, Dick Goodwin, and Robert Newton all staged House bands, Goffer and the boys at W.O.M.P. threw us some shows. Eventually, Derek, Jack, Cliff, LeAnne, George and the others took over and Art Boerke took over the booking for them. Pat Berman and then Mike Miller stoked the fire at The State. Amy Whitaker regularly featured our artists in her Free Times Magazine. It was a very special 13 years that we enjoyed with all of you, and literally everyone pitched in to make it happen. We hope to see everyone on the 28th.
