Burning Down The House Woodworks by Mirjana Vrbaški and Mirko Lazović
Artists Mirjana Vrbaški and Mirko Lazović unite in this exhibition to create a sculptural experiment around the equivocal act of burning wood.
Lazović’s process begins with destruction, with the scent of fire and charred wood. It explores the fragile moment before structural collapse. For Lazović, working with wood is an act of cleansing, a material entry into the unknown.
Vrbaški approaches fire as a life-giving force, harnessing its regenerative qualities. Burning is seen as a stage in the cycle of decay and renewal that fosters growth of unfamiliar new life forms. A sculptural installation reminisces an uncanny fungal formation. Photographs printed on wood acquire new visual language through charring of the image.
Mirjana Vrbaški is a visual artist with a background in photography. Mirko Lazović is a multimedia artist and a theatre designer.
