The ATEE Annual Conference in 2025 will focus on challenges for Teacher Educators in educating authentic teachers
The proposed theme is “The Making of Authentic Teachers in Ages of Artificiality?” with subthemes around:
• Performativity and Teaching
• Teacher Identities
• Teaching, Learning and Artificial Intelligence
• Teacher Education and Social Media
The focus of the conference will be on the challenges of supporting the development of authentic teachers in the face of increasing pressures to sculpt and perform teacher identities responsive to changed and changing social and technical environments. Authenticity refers to the extent to which a person acts being in alliance with that person’s true self. Teaching is, above all, a relational activity. Values such as honesty, integrity, and courage are fundamental to the development of powerful relationships, most especially between teachers and learners. This conference will offer an opportunity to tease out the implications of this understanding in the context of social developments such as hyper-diversity and globalisation and developments such as social media and artificial intelligence in the technical realm.
