Barrister's Ball 2020 - 2/29

And now, for the moment you've all been waiting for! SBA invites you to join us for this year's Barrister's Ball, at the Carolina Inn on the evening of Saturday, February 29th. The revelry will begin at 9pm with food, cash bar, and live entertainment, so don't be late! Here's a breakdown of important details so far:

Theme:
This year's Barrister's theme is "the New Roaring Twenties" in honor of beginning a radically different 20's decade than is often celebrated. Although the decor and dress will still likely be familiar, we assure you that Prohibition will not be in effect. Dress code is formal/cocktail, with traditional Roaring Twenties attire celebrated but not expected nor required.

Tickets:
Tickets will go on sale in the Rotunda during the lunch hour beginning on Monday, February 3rd. Based on student feedback, we have a slightly different ticket sale schedule than in previous years: for the first two weeks, tickets will be on sale Monday through Thursday for $25 each, and for the second two weeks, tickets will be on sale Monday through Friday for $30 each. We hope that the longer ticket sale window and lower ticket price will allow everyone the opportunity to come if you want to. Another important note - due to University contract policies, we can ONLY accept cash or check as payment. I know we've used Venmo in the past, but we're really not supposed to do that, and I trust that a month's notice should be enough time to grab some cash from an ATM or cash-back. Also, non-law student dates/guests are more than welcome!

Food and Beverage:
This will mostly be the same as in previous years, with catering provided by the Carolina Inn and beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) available for sale at cash bars set up around the venue. Drink pricing is determined by the Carolina Inn. Plan for the food to be hors d'oeuvres, not your dinner - eat ahead of time!

Entertainment:
Due to popular demand, we will be joined by a band this year! The (919) is a powerhouse of musical talent thrust together by luck, funk, and interplanetary destiny, and can deliver a catalog of music that would make a jukebox green with envy. We will circulate a request form to make sure The (919) plays your favorites. Other entertainment is in the works as well, so stay tuned for updates!

Venue Layout:
The entrance is accessible walking from Pittsboro Street, and taxis/hired cars should be able to drop you off easily enough, although it will likely be crowded so keep that in mind when accounting for travel. Once inside you'll be able to check in, and from there you will have access to the Chancellor's Ballroom and the Old Well Ballroom. The Chancellor's Ballroom will primarily host the food and beverage, and the Old Well Ballroom will host the music and dance floor. We will also have a photo booth setup and roving photographer to help capture the evening.

More information will follow as we get closer to the event. If you have any questions, please email Sam Spalding at c3NwYWxkaSB8IGxpdmUgISB1bmMgISBlZHU=. We look forward to seeing you in the Rotunda soon!
