Tea Gudek Šnajdar - Following Van Gogh: book presentation and signing
About this Event
Join us for the book presentation and signing of Tea Gudek Šnajdar new book Following van Gogh. Tea will be interviewed by Hannah Huber from Storyhouse Works.
About the book:
When museum guide Elisabeth Bernard is entrusted with a mysterious painting, she leaps at the chance to research it. But passionate Lizzy’s quest for the truth soon leads her into danger as she crosses Europe on a route once travelled by her favourite artist. Meanwhile, back in 1880s Holland, aspiring painter Vincent van Gogh is searching for inspiration, companionship and his own distinctive style. As Lizzy’s plight escalates, so Vincent’s anguish intensifies, with famously tragic consequences.
An art-heist adventure told through the eyes of an art historian, Following Van Gogh is a parallel journey of self-discovery; a tale of passion, and what we are prepared to risk in pursuit of it. Blurring the boundaries between fact and fiction, the narrative features evocative biographical passages which frame the fast-paced modern-day narrative, painting a vivid portrait of one of the world’s best-loved artists. The book is full of insights into his process as a painter, from Vincent’s resourceful habit of using both sides of a canvas to his frequent feat of completing pictures in a single sitting − a custom he honed in Provence, where the mistral winds rapidly change the light and colour of the landscape.
About the author, Tea Gudek Šnajdar
Tea is an art historian and blogger behind the Culture Tourist, a travel blog focused on European destinations’ art, history and culture, with occasional trips outside the Old Continent.
Tea has always loved art. During her studies, when she started working as a museum guide, she realized how many people are intimidated by art and found museums to be scary places where art is reserved only for the few who understand it. So, she dedicated her work to making art more understandable, enjoyable and less scary.
After receiving her MA degree in Art History, she moved from her home town, Zagreb (Croatia), to Amsterdam. And found that to be a great opportunity to start her own business.
After working in museums and getting some experience in the travel industry, she wanted to combine art and travel in her work. She started organizing private museum tours at Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum.
To make art pieces come to life, she researched where famous painters, like Van Gogh, lived and worked. And how you can still follow their footsteps in many places in Europe. She created a mobile app Rembrandt in Amsterdam and wrote a lot about the places linked to Van Gogh in the Netherlands, Belgium and France.
Besides writing on her blog, she also writes articles about cultural tourism and art for magazines and online publications.
This event is organized in collaboration with Storyhouse Works.
