In this hands-on workshop, we'll create watercolor paints made from earth pigments--natural colorants derived from rocks, minerals, and soil. By using materials directly sourced from our environment, we’ll create a unique palette that captures the essence of the landscapes around us. We’ll begin with an optional foraging hike to collect rocks. Additionally, we’ll explore a variety of natural resources sourced from New Mexico and Utah. Using a mortar and pestle, we’ll grind these raw materials into fine pigments, transforming them into our own handmade paints. We will use our earth pigment paints to learn various watercolor techniques.
