OPEN LECTURE
Prof. Gert-Jan van der Heiden on the Concept of “Event”

Gert-Jan van der Heiden, Full Professor of Metaphysics at the Faculty of Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies, Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands, will give an Open Lecture in English, titled “Event, Contingency, and Witnessing”.
All interested are warmly welcome (open to the public), attendance is free.
The Open Lecture is connected to the international conference titled “Event and Its Mediation. Philosophical, Philological, Religious Studies, Literary and Cultural Theoretical Perspectives”, which will take place between 1-4 September, 2025, in the Palace of Music (Bartók Béla Square 1, 3530 Miskolc) and the headquarters of the Miskolc Academic Committee (Erzsébet Square 3, 3530 Miskolc).
The aim of the conference is to discuss one of the key issues of contemporary philosophy in a distinctly interdisciplinary manner, namely to explore the nature and significance of events, gaining a better understanding of their place in reality and their transformative effects, and rethinking the philosophies and related scientific approaches that aim to outline these issues – represented in many ways in both the analytical and continental philosophical traditions – from various systematic and historical perspectives.
The conference program consists of 4 plenary lectures delivered by the most prominent international experts on the topic, and parallel sections, where another 54 international speakers will present their relevant research.
The conference provides members of the Hungarian professional community – not least doctoral students – with an opportunity to present their findings and publish them alongside renowned authors, as well as to expand their international professional networks and seek out new opportunities for collaboration.
