WHAT YOU CAN’T KEEP is a tender, poetic, and humorous exploration of modern love told in three lyrical acts. The film follows two young artists, Lizzie and Lucas, as they traverse their evolving relationship. Taking place over the course of five real-time years, the film’s three distinct parts weave in and out of inner monologues and starkly personal scenes as they meet, fall in love, fight through the messy middle of their young relationship, and contemplate their future with or without each other. From their alluring first encounter to the intimate complexities of long-term love, WHAT YOU CAN’T KEEP unfolds in a series of raw, sharply observed moments—confessionals on past loves and losses while finding hope for the future. As Lizzie and Lucas navigate the highs of infatuation, the heartbreak of growing pains, and the quiet question of whether love alone is enough, the film delicately captures the poetry of ordinary life and the yearning of human connection.
