This is THE VWO EVENT OF THE YEAR!
Friday night’s VWO Home Opener Party will be at the Twin Cities 400 Tavern and will include a Toy drive, Children’s Minnesota Hospital Fundraising Toss Up, cold drinks, warm food, and plenty of fellow VWO members to get to know!
The VWO Official Hotel Sponsor Delta Hotels Minneapolis Northeast is an amazing hotel and event space, and they are so excited to be hosting our event, along with the VWO Official Event Sponsor Twin Cities 400 Tavern. This venue is located 3.5 miles from the stadium, a short Uber ride away, on 35W near Stinson/Industrial Blvd area.
Each year we do our toy drive in honor of Kayleen Larson. It was her last wish to have toys donated to Star Studio at Children’s Hospital each year on her birthday. We will continue to honor that wish! Please bring a new toy to donate to Children's Hospital Minnesota!
We will also be raising funds for Joe Lonke! Joe has been an amazing friend to the VWO for many years. Joe was hospitalized May 18- June 25. He was rushed into emergency surgery when they found a hole and an ulcer in his upper intestine. It also ended up removing his gall bladder that was infected. Joe spent a week in the ICU and then went to rehab after two weeks when they found blood clots in his leg that made their way to his lungs. Joe went back down to the main hospital for two weeks to deal with those and then back to rehab after that. He is walking with the assistance of a walker and rehab at home visits twice a week and hoping to eventually get back to work after being out for ten weeks.
Also we will be raising funds for Jennifer Nieland and her son Matthew. Jennifer is a member of the VWO. Matthew is a 14 year old boy whose large intestine has stopped functioning. They have endured multiple hospitalizations, needles, sedations and lots of tears. Jennifer has fought the last 6 years for doctors to do motility testing, gastric empty studies, MRIs- Something to explain why this happened. He has a G-tube and a Cecostomy tube. One for nutrition and one for Emptying his bowels. These are now failing to work. Jennifer has reached out to Cincinnati Children's in hopes that they would take him as a patient. They agreed and fast tracked him through and had a conference on him. They named countless tests that he's needed for so long. Tests Jennifer has fought for so long to get. Jennifer has yet to hear if Matthew’s insurance will even agree to pay going out of state but she will do whatever it takes to get him there for what he needs. He loves football and Justin Jefferson!
