Visions and Voices: Indigenous Educational Workshop and PBS film viewing by Leya Hale, “The Electric Indian” Saturday, November 8, 2025, 1 – 4 pm Brooklyn Center Community Center - Constitution Hall 6301 Shingle Creek Parkway
You are invited to a celebration of culture and community. Join us for a traditional Indigenous blessing led by Kalpulli Yaocenoxtli Danza, honoring Indigenous peoples, offering a blessing and ceremony to celebrate the land, ancestors, and community gathered. This practice reminds us of our interconnectedness and the importance of respect, balance, and gratitude. This gathering is more than a film screening—it is an opportunity to honor Indigenous voices, traditions, and stories, while creating space for dialogue, healing, and connection. “The Electric Indian” is a documentary from filmmaker Leya Hale that follows Ojibwe hockey legend Henry Boucha. A standout hockey star from Warroad, Minnesota, Boucha impressed on the ice from the 1969 Minnesota High School Hockey Tournament to the 1972 Olympics and the NHL. However, an on-ice assault and injury ended his athletic career, which unexpectedly led to a journey of healing and cultural reclamation.
Visions and Voices: Cultural Learning Workshops is an inclusive educational initiative designed to deepen understanding, spark meaningful dialogue, and inspire action centered on the lived experiences, challenges, and triumphs of historically marginalized communities in America. All are welcome.
