Rising Militarism Declining Empire: US Foreign Policy Under Trump
Saturday, September 20th @ 2pm @ Lucy Parsons Center,4100 S 28th Ave, Minneapolis

Join Freedom Road Socialist Organization for an anti-imperialist panel analyzing United States foreign policy under the Trump administration!

It seems that in every direction we turn under Trump we see war on the horizon. In the past eight months we've seen unabated shipments of weapons and money to Israel for use in its genocide in Palestine. We've seen the bombing of Palestine's ally Iran, and the curious timing of the lifting of sanctions on Palestine's longtime ally Syria after years of destabilization efforts culminating with the collapse of the government of Bashar Al-Assad. In the Red Sea, Yemen has bravely endured relentless American bombing campaigns as punishment for its naval blockade of ships complicit in genocide. Meanwhile the Lebanese people continue to be targeted by American made bombs as Israel attempts to expand its reach into Lebanon. Astoundingly, all of this is just the mess Trump is making in West Asia.

We've also seen Trump's war on immigrants reach ever more absurd levels here in the United States. But what are the conditions created by US meddling in countries of the global south like Venezuela, Ecuador, El Salvador, and Mexico that create desperate situations in which people are forced to flee their homes in search of some kind of safety and stability?

In Africa we've seen the devastating consequences of US imperialism and the conquest for the vast resources in the Congo. What are the aims of US intervention there and how is Trump continuing to prevent self determination for the people of Africa? How do these policies connect to the racist oppression of black people we see every day here at home?

Three years in, the war in Ukraine continues to grind on. Despite Trump's claim that he would end the conflict within 24 hours of taking office, he continues to send American weapons to Ukraine to stoke the fires of war. Recently, we've seen an attempt to shift the responsibility of the war to the European Union. What is the purpose of this shift and how does it coincide with Trump’s broader plan for the rest of the globe?

Finally, we've seen a gradual pivot of the Trump administration’s focus to China. We saw Trump's tariff war as a fledgling attempt to destabilize and demonize China for its refusal to bend the knee to American global hegemony. The continued shipping of arms to Taiwan only seeks to heighten tensions in East Asia. How do we view China's role in resisting the rampage of Trump's brand of US imperialism?

If you're looking for perspectives on all of this and more, and you're ready to resist Trump's attacks not only at home but across the globe, we hope you'll join us Saturday September 20 at 2PM at the Lucy Parsons Center!
