ABOUT THIS SHOW

John Trudell has been physically gone for ten years now. His life and words continue to matter. John reminds us that if we use our intelligence and stay coherent, we will outlast them. This evening will not only celebrate his memories, wisdom, heart and love, but will revive his voice to make his words part of our own truth. This will help the powerless realize that they are anything but.

REMEMBERING JOHN TRUDELL will feature:

Annie Humphrey and Keith Secola will give performances with guitarist Jeremy Ylvisaker and drummer Sean Carey. Art making with Fire in the Village.

Fire in The Village is a collective of artists and cultural organizers.

Annie Humphrey

John Trudell was Annie's mentor in life and now.  John's intelligence, respect, love and confidence are what Annie strives to deliver in her life, lectures, music,  writing and especially, in her thoughts. Remembering John Truell is a tribute to his life and his memory.  For those who knew him, as John would say, "Remember me as you remember me."

Jeremy Ylvisaker

Jeremy Ylvisaker is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, teacher, and visual artist whose music and images are influenced by decades of wildly disparate collaborations with artists both popular (Laufey, Bon Iver, Suki Waterhouse, Bruce Hornsby, etc..) and, more often, underground. These friendships are reflected in many solo recordings as well as with his trio Alpha Consumer, in his multi media series Nights for All Time, as well as in his contributions to soundtracks such as Aggregate States of Matters (MoMA), Refeamed: Forgotten Film Remembered (Walker Art Center), MacBeth on Broadway, and in an improvised score alongside Merce Cunningham Dance Company.

S. Carey

Over the past seventeen years, S. Carey has become an essential collaborator within the Bon Iver community and beyond, serving as the longest member of the touring band and contributing to their last four full length albums. He has honed his skills as a songwriter, producer, and collaborator with the likes of Sufjan Stevens, Low, Mason Jennings, Mike Kinsella, Pieta Brown, Taylor Deupree, Bruce Hornsby, Ymusic, and many more. While fostering his own work through themes of nature, love, heartbreak, and sustainability, Carey's heartfelt lyricism often lives within a bed of lush and beautiful sounds, akin to some Bon Iver sonic landscapes, but unique in his own way. S. Carey has released four full length records, All We Grow (2010), Range of Light (2014), Hundred Acres (2018), and Break Me Open (2022). Carey resides in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where he spends most of his time out of doors: walking, running, mushroom hunting, or  most likely standing in a stream trying to fool fish with flies and contemplating the cosmos.
