This week at the Lake Harriet Bandshell we are hosting Creeping Charlie, an indie rock band. For cancellations due to weather please check our Facebook page for updates.
Minneapolis-based soft grunge group, Creeping Charlie, led by singer/songwriter Julia Eubanks, is gearing up for the release of their second full-length record, following an explosive first couple years on the scene. Cyanotype, produced by John Agnello (Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., Kurt Vile), is an exciting contribution to the group’s already decorated discography, as they maintain their ‘gritty, yet pretty’ guitar-driven sound, while experimenting with new timbres and sonic textures. Eubanks “one of the Twin Cities rock scene's most promising young songwriters.” - Star Tribune displays her lyrical prowess in the record, as she grasps at the non-tangible, counters disappointment with wit, and reveals a love for literature, making references to the work of the late, great American poet, Sylvia Plath. The album, as a whole, beautifully balances mosh-inducing riffs with nostalgic musings.
Creeping Charlie is made up of Julia Eubanks (lead vocals/guitar/songwriter), her sister, Esmé Eubanks (bass), and Jack Malone (drums). The group began as a passion project for Julia and quickly exploded into a headlining act in the Twin Cities. They found early success with their debut EP, “Asymmetrical” (May 2020), which charted high on NACC. In December 2021, they released their debut album, “How to K*ll Creeping Charlie,” establishing their distinct 90’s inspired indie-punk sound. Since then, the group completed a Midwest tour with rising pop star, Shamir, performed at First Avenue’s annual “Best New Bands” concert in early 2023, and wrapped their “Out of the Void, Into the Ether” tour. Creeping Charlie has planted itself firmly in the Minneapolis scene and, as their name suggests, they are only spreading from here.
