International Folk Dance

Discover heritage, rhythm, and community through International Friday, a joyful evening of dances from around the world. This program features traditional and contemporary dances from Eastern Europe, Greece, Israel, Turkey, Armenia, Scandinavia, Brittany, East Asia, and even a bit of English Country Dance.
No partner is needed. Most dances are done together in a semi-circular line formation, following a leader. New dancers are encouraged to jump in and try by following along this is one of the most welcoming ways to experience international folk dance.
What to Expect
The evening begins with a one-hour lesson, led by rotating instructors who bring a wide variety of experience and styles. After the lesson, enjoy International Request Dance, where dancers can request recently taught favorites or beloved classics. The result is a lively mix of old and new dances from every continent, with especially popular requests from Bulgaria, the former Yugoslavia, and Greece, along with Israeli dances and couple dances from Europe and the Americas no partner required.
