Your imagination is always ready to meet invention! In this workshop, we’ll focus on the art of constructing costumes using unconventional materials and techniques, folding and molding scrap plastics, found objects, and repurposed fabrics into wearable works that bring your character to life. Using RedRum’s Metropolis-inspired robot costume as a case study, participants will get a close-up look at how it was engineered and assembled, from initial concept to final, movement-ready form.
RedRum Bio:
Hailed as the ‘Queen of Halloween’ and the ‘Lon Chaney of Burlesque’ RedRum is a multidisciplinary artist whose formal background is in painting and video art. Burlesque brought together the perfect combination of their love for makeup, prop building and horror film with the catharsis of a live audience. Drawing from a variety of influences they bring to the stage a unique combination of burlesque and performance art, choosing narratives that combine elements of sex, death and humor – the great social levelers. Known for their unusual costumes and skilled improvisation they strive to give audiences something they have never seen before and may never see again.
