Contact Improvisation is a dance form that is practiced regularly in the twin cities on Monday nights. It is helpful to be familiar with this form for this event, but it is not required.
The form invites dancers to work with their center of gravity and with a shared point of contact with other dancers. It is often danced without music.
For this event, which is the first of a series on the 2nd Saturday of the month at the CFPA, we will invite musicians to bring instruments to improvise under the direction of a “band leader” and in collaboration with the dancers. They are not playing songs for the dancers to move to, they are responding to what is happening on the dance floor.
Improvised movement with improvised sounds. Improv/Improv.
Drew Dietle is renting the space and will facilitate an opening and closing circle for the event. No food or drink (except for water) in the space. Please bring a donation $5-$25+ to cover the rental fee and to split between the band leader and the facilitator.
The “band leader” for the night will be designated at the opening circle. All are welcome to bring instruments and to be part of both the music making and the movement.
Feel free to leave questions in the comments or send a DM to Drew.
