Conversation with the Nevada Poet Laureate, Shaun Griffen

The NV Poet Laureate, Shaun Griffin is coming to Carson Valley on Wednesday , May 7. The Carson Valley Arts Council is proud to support his workshop with Douglas High School creative writing students that morning and a public event in the afternoon from 1 -2 pm at the Carson Valley Arts Council, 1572 US Highway 395, Minden. The event is Free, but donations welcomed.
Shaun Griffin’s soulful poetry and engagement with Nevada communities makes him one of the state’s most well-loved literary figures. He is the author of This is What the Desert Surrenders, Bathing in the River of Ashes and Woodsmoke, Wind and the Peregrine. Recurring themes in his poetry are “… family, landscape and work for justice in the larger world.” He is the editor of Razor Wire, an annual poetry journal. His new books are First, a memoir about cycling 1200 miles through the west with his two sons- River Ask Me Why: Into the West on Two Wheels and his latest collection of poems “No Charity in the Wilderness.”

Governor Joe Lombardo has appointed Shaun Griffin to serve as the Nevada State Poet Laureate from May 1, 2024 through April 30, 2026.
