It's September, you know what that means, an obscure but fun piece that may or may not be written by Shakes…. Or maybe instead an old familiar: Romeo and Juliet!
And, as always, we bring it to you in our own signature style: "Shakespeare Raw".
How does it work? I'm glad you asked.
A group of actors arrive the day of the show having read (or at least skimmed) the script so they are at passingly familiar with the text. Then, they pull a character name from the casting director (aka the Hat) to learn who they will be playing that night. They then have approximately 10 minutes to get into character (read: grab a drink) and get ready for their first scene. And the next one. And the one after that. You get the idea.
"But I'm not familiar with the play" you say, well, how? For better or worse, this is one of the most familiar stories ever told!! Okay, okay, just in case…
Romeo and Juliet fall in love at a party. But they come from families who hate each other. They are sure they will not be allowed to marry. Nevertheless, helped by Friar Laurence, they marry in secret. Unfortunately, before their wedding night, Romeo kills Juliet’s cousin in a duel, and in the morning he is forced to leave her. If he ever returns to the city, he will be put to death. Juliet’s parents told her she must marry Paris. Her parents do not know she is already married. She refuses in the beginning, but later agrees because she plans to fake her own death and escape to be with Romeo; again with the help of Friar Laurence. And THEN-

You'll have three opportunities to catch this spectacle, September 8th, 9th and 10th all at 7:30pm. Doors officially open at 7pm.
The location? Best Place at the Historic Pabst Brewery. Yeah, the one that looks like a castle. We're doing Shakespeare in a CASTLE!!! A castle with on-street parking. When there isn’t a nearby concert or Bucks game anyway.
Cost is $10 at the door or $5 if you're wearing red or blue. Or red and blue I guess but, really, pick a side. It's more fun that way. It’s not like you can save $10 wearing both colors. Nice try though.
And now that all the necessaries have been stated,
“Good night, good night! parting is such sweet sorrow,
That I shall say good night till it be morrow.”
