Earthen wall building workshop

Join us for an Earthen wall building workshop in Milton, NSW with Peter Hickson, Earth Building Solutions. This immersive workshop is designed for anyone interested in natural building and traditional earth construction methods. Led by experienced earth builder Peter Hickson from Earth Building Solutions, this workshop focuses on using wattle and daub to create earthen walls. This workshop will give participants the unique opportunity to learn time-honoured techniques while working on a real, evolving structure. You will gain both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience. Participants will work with a bamboo frame, prepare and apply cob, earthen daub and rendering mixes. There will be another workshop in March where we will apply natural render finishes and sealing to the walls and floor. The workshop also explores the broader principles of ecological building—covering passive solar design, building technique selection, and the environmental benefits of earth-based construction. These simple, sustainable techniques require minimal energy and provide endless opportunities for creativity, making them ideal for home projects, garden structures, community spaces, and artistic builds. Participants will leave the workshop equipped with practical skills and confidence to replicate natural building processes in their own environments.
