St. Stephen’s Friends of Music is committed to sharing the joy of beautiful music—and our magnificent Beckerath organ—with our broader community. We invite you to join us on October 26th at 4:00PM as we welcome acclaimed organist Christopher Houlihan to St. Stephen’s. Mr. Houlihan has established an international reputation as a "passionate and intelligently virtuoso musician” (Gramophone), hailed for "glowing, miraculously life-affirming performances" (Los Angeles Times). His playing has been praised as “eloquent” (The New York Times), “dazzling” (The Wall Street Journal), and “first-class” (The Diapason).
Designed and built specifically for the interior of St. Stephen’s Church by renowned German organ builder Rudolf von Beckerath, the 1970 tracker organ draws its primary inspiration from the golden age of 17th- and 18th-century North German organ craftsmanship. Featuring a fully mechanical (tracker) key action, it remains true to the design principles of historic instruments. Electricity is used solely to provide wind pressure for the pipes and to control the stop combinations.
Come enjoy some lovely music in the beautiful setting of St. Stephen’s Church, the Church on Main Street where love begets love.
We look forward to seeing you!
