There is a pending permit review for an unconventional shale gas well proposed on Jim Mountain Road, Springfield Township, called “Tanta Bella 1.” This application, submitted to the PA DEP by PH Masterline, is for the development of a well pad at 375 Jim Mountain Road, and 3 miles of boring from the well pad to beyond Clay Pike Road.
Drilling would take place along the Utica Shale formation at a total vertical depth of over 15,000 feet. The operation is proposed close to many water resources, including Indian Creek, the Mill Run Reservoir, and countless private wells. Shale gas extraction poses serious risks to water quality, air quality and public health.
