Music in the Coffeehouse with Liam Lawson

The Elm Inn is excited to welcome musician and storyteller Liam Lawson to Music in the Coffeehouse!

Liam Lawson is a guitarist and music educator based in Ithaca, NY. He works in the “story song” tradition of artists like Woody Guthrie and Gordon Lightfoot. Many of his tunes retell actual historical events. Others capture the spirit of the times, expressed through lyrics that are honest and hopeful.

Liam is a fingerstyle guitarists in the mold of Chet Atkins and Tommy Emmanuel. He borrows extensively from jazzers like Joe Pass and Lenny Breau. Liam's live performances always include a few instrumental pieces - music for its own sake, showcasing his virtuosic technique and deep knowledge of the fretboard.

A music historian and folklorist, Liam is always researching and arranging forgotten songs. His repertoire explores the breadth of traditional American music, including Shaker hymns, Appalachian folk ballads, and the Piedmont blues.
