Isaiah Hollist, born on March 13, 2013, in South Florida, has become an inspiring symbol of hope and perseverance after overcoming Sickle Cell Disease. Diagnosed shortly after birth with SS Sickle Cell Anemia, the most severe form of the disease, Isaiah's early years were shaped by the challenges of managing this condition. His parents, Abraham and Kristen Hollist, both health professionals, devoted their lives to seeking a cure for their son, determined to protect him from future complications. Although Isaiah’s exceptional health made him ineligible for traditional bone marrow transplantation early on, this was a bittersweet reality. However, in 2024, through the SUN Trial at Children’s National Hospital, Isaiah finally received a simplified bone marrow transplant, with his younger brother as the miraculous donor match, giving him a new lease on life. Inspired by Isaiah’s journey, his family has remained dedicated to raising awareness about Sickle Cell Disease. In fact, his experience was the driving force behind the opening of a comprehensive medical center in Miami Gardens, focused on preventative health and addressing social determinants of health in the community.
Isaiah’s story is one of resilience, faith, and family. His journey from living with the most severe form of Sickle Cell to being cured is a testament to the power of preventative care and medical advancements. His family continues to advocate for education, awareness, and hope, inspiring others to believe in their ability to overcome challenges and pursue their dreams.
