Join us for the zine release of Echoes in the Ferns by Michelle Bardino Vela, a beautifully immersive work inspired by growing up in Florida—rich with childhood memories, archival family photographs, and the cycles of life captured through cyanotype art. At this event, you can pick up your free copy of the zine and take part in a collaborative cyanotype workshop, where participants will layer images with fallen botanical materials—naturally shed leaves and stems—as we reflect on ancestry, family, and what draws us to South Florida. The Florida landscape—its mangroves, ferns, and palms—serves as a connective thread, weaving together shared histories in this interactive, memory-rich experience.
All ages are welcome! No prior experience is required, and we’ll provide everything you need—just show up ready to create.
About EXILE Projects & Zine Machine program:
EXILE Projects is a Miami-based nonprofit press that champions experimental artists’ publications, expands access to independent print culture, and celebrates diverse creative voices.
Started in 2021, EXILE’s broadside Zine Machine program aims to provide free zines distributed throughout Miami in retrofitted newspaper machines. Our goal is to promote local artists’ work and distribute these in an accessible way to our diverse community. Created in editions of 1000, each artist is selected by an independent curator and is awarded an honorarium.
