Registration is now open for volunteers to help us replace flags on veterans' graves throughout the city.
This year, the event is Saturday, May 17, 2025, rain or shine. We start at 8:30 AM with coffee and donuts provided courtesy of Mayor Beauregard, and incredible breakfast sandwiches courtesy of Ellie's Farmhouse. Also, many thanks to Shaw's for providing fruit and water. The ceremony begins at 9:00 AM, after which we start replacing flags. We should be finished by noon at the latest.
As we recognize those who served in the Armed Forces and have passed away, we also celebrate their wonderful lives, making this event meaningful as well as enjoyable for all who generously donate their time.
Methuen is unique in that our event is led by students from Methuen High School and Greater Lawrence Technical School. Community volunteers will sign up for teams led by student leaders. This experience serves as a valuable learning opportunity for our students while allowing community members to engage with our next generation of leaders.
And do not miss the amazing performance by the third graders from St. Monica's School! I promise you, this is something you won't want to miss.
We have six teams at Elmwood Cemetery, one team each at the adjoining St. Anthony's, Lithuanian, Polish, and Russian cemeteries, one team at Walnut Grove, one small team at Meeting House Hill, and a team at St. Mary's/Immaculate Conception on the Lawrence line. Just pick a team and sign up. Bring your family, friends, neighbors, your neighbors' friends. Groups such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Daisies, sports teams, etc., are especially welcome.
