Holiday Presidential Open House at the James Buchanan Birthplace Cabin

Mercersburg Academy, 100 Academy Dr, Mercersburg, PA 17236 – Free event, no RSVP required

In partnership with Mercersburg Academy, the Conococheague Institute will be furnishing the James Buchanan Birthplace Cabin and interpreting the winter traditions and stories of the 18th century.



Take a student-led tour of this historic property, explore the architecture of a simple log home, learn about Buchanan’s Scots-Irish parents, write a Christmas letter with quill and ink, play 18th-century table games, and take a selfie with Hawthorne the Goat. Christmas snacks and gifts will be handed out to every visitor in this season of giving and joy.



The James Buchanan Birthplace Cabin is located on the Mercersburg Academy campus, and this open house leads into the 3 PM 50th Anniversary Christmas Concert at the Irvine Memorial Chapel.
