Uncovering History’s Secrets: “The Uprising of ‘34,” A Documentary about the 1934 Textile Strike

On Sunday, September 7 at 2:30 PM, the library will host a showing of “The Uprising of ‘34” along with a short program by Moon Lake librarian Anne McLeod. The documentary tells the history of a strike in September of 1934 that proved to be a pivotal point in the Southern labor movement, though its story is little known today.

It was the secrecy surrounding the strike that first drew Anne to the subject when she was an undergraduate at the University of Georgia in the late 1970s. At the program she will discuss how she first became fascinated by the strike and how she integrated it into her doctoral dissertation 32 years later.
