The Winter Whale Cruise offered a completely different atmosphere, filled with the crisp air and anticipation of spotting migrating giants. Bundled up in warm jackets, we set out along Phillip Island’s coastline, eyes scanning the horizon for signs of whales. The crew’s knowledge was impressive, pointing out the telltale spouts and flukes of both humpback and southern right whales. Each sighting was met with gasps and applause, especially when a whale breached or slapped its tail on the water. The sense of awe was palpable, shared by everyone on board.
Beyond the whales, the cruise showcased the area’s rich marine life. We passed Seal Rocks, home to thousands of fur seals basking and playing on the rocks, and spotted pods of dolphins weaving through the waves. Morning tea was served on deck, providing a warm treat as we soaked in the panoramic ocean views. The Winter Whale Cruise was not just about whale watching—it was an immersive journey into the heart of Phillip Island’s wild and wonderful marine environment.
