Leading her newly-formed, Narrm based ensemble, Maddie Browne is an up-and-coming voice on the jazz scene.
Bringing big band influences to a small group instrumentation, her unique combination of instruments takes the explorative nature of improvisation to a whole new level. Relying only on acoustic bass, drums, trombone, saxophone and voice, the Maddie Browne Quintet (MBQ) will transport you to a new world of original compositions, as well as re-inventing jazz standards. With influences such as Esperanza Spalding, Nubya Garcia, Melissa Aldana, Flora Carbo and Sonny Rollins, this inspiring young ensemble is one to keep an eye on.
Maddie Browne, on behalf of The Maddie Browne Quintet, was recently announced as the recipients of the Vice Chancellor's Ensemble Leadership Prize 2025. The MBQ are focusing their ensemble development through the recording of their debut album, set to be released later this year. The MBQ are also dedicated to building a community, not just an audience, and have exciting plans for 2025 and beyond.
The Maddie Browne Quintet will be joined by Primary Colours Trio and Goose Goose Duck for their performance at Bar Open, 6 August 2025.
