[DJ Wayang BIO
DJ Wayang (formerly known as Tran Scended) merges a rich blend of formative influences, seamlessly balancing traditional approaches with contemporary interpretations. His sound is characterised by deep, sincere basslines and a glitchy, glowing quality that conveys a profound emotional depth. This unique sonic identity has become the hallmark of his DJ sets and production.
In early 2019, DJ Wayang co-launched Pneumatic, an event series in Perth dedicated to showcasing emerging local producers and DJs who were pushing the boundaries of sound. The series quickly evolved into a mix series and a record label, creating a distinct platform to support local artists and cultivate a vibrant, forward-thinking music scene.
Building on this momentum, in 2023 DJ Wayang co-launched *Mutual Affection*, a new event series that highlights the evolving landscape of electronic dance music. Focused on producers and DJs who blend elements of traditional dance genres with their own unique perspectives, Mutual Affection aims to expose the local community to the exciting possibilities shaping the future of club and party music.
The word Wayang draws inspiration from Indonesia’s traditional shadow puppet performances, which depict the eternal struggle between good and evil. Each performance is unique, shaped by the puppeteer’s interpretation—a concept that DJ Wayang translates into his sets, where the music is guided by his vision and storytelling.
Outside of his live performances and event curation, DJ Wayang also hosts a monthly radio show on Perth’s community station, RTRFM, which played a pivotal role in sparking his passion for DJing and continues to influence his journey as a musician and promoter.]
This event will take place on stolen land. We pay our respects to the first custodians of the land, the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation, and their ancestors and elders; past, present and future. We stand alongside our first nations community in their ongoing resistance. Sovereignty remains unceded.
