Trip/area Description: Sebastian Inlet State Park is a beautiful stretch of barrier island along central Florida’s east coast. Sebastian Inlet is a manmade cut through the barrier island, connecting the Atlantic Ocean with the Indian River Lagoon. Stretching over three miles of barrier island, the park spans 1,000 acres. The park hosts two museums, the McLarty Treasure Museum and the Sebastian Fishing Museum, that highlight fascinating stories of local history.

Guide Lani York will lead a group to identify birds in this section of the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail. The Park is home to many types of resident and migratory species. Shorebirds, wading birds, and seabirds are commonly seen along the beaches and estuary. Please ask for the Sebastian Inlet Bird Checklist at the ranger station. The Pelican Island Audubon Society has completed a video on a birding field trip to Sebastian Inlet State Park.

Duration of trip: 2-3 hours

Walking distance: 1 mile

Degree of difficulty: Bring drinking water and snacks, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat for protection. Easy walking.

There is an entrance fee for the Park: $8 per vehicle (two to eight people), $4 for a single-occupant vehicle, or $2 for pedestrians, bicyclists. Free entrance for vehicles with holder of Annual Individual Admission Pass.
