In this 2-day workshop we will be taking a in-depth look into portrait drawing and painting. We will begin with the foundational basics of portrait drawing and finish with a fully-rendered, color painting in pastel, acrylic, or oil.


Subjects to be covered:


- Proportion and construction of the head from any angle


- Working from memory, references, and live models


- Light logic and value structure


- Tonal drawing using structure and block-ins


- Edge control (hard, soft, lost, found)


- Breaking down the features of the face


- Limited and full palette colors for developing luminous flesh tones


- Model setup and backgrounds



Day 1 will focus on drawing. Day 2 will focus on painting. Open to all skill levels. Beginners welcome. 10-5pm, with an hour for lunch


Note: when choosing references, make sure certain shadow and light areas are not blown out and the light source comes from the left or right side of the subject.
