Ready, Set, Grow!

Select Fridays in June and July we are offering our Ready, Set, Grow! Day Camp from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for kids ages 7 to 11. Sign up for one session or all five - each camp day is unique. We can't wait to see you this summer!

Friday, June 20th - Theme Gardening Day: Gardens inspire in countless ways, whether through creative design or practical purpose. What kind of garden calls to you? A fragrant herb haven for your kitchen? A whimsical fairy realm filled with tiny treasures? Or a vibrant tapestry of blossoms?

Our camp day will introduce the concept of themed gardening. We will collaboratively select a theme and establish a garden at Ashcombe based on it. Additionally, children will have the opportunity to sketch out plans for their own themed garden ideas. The day's activities will include planting, creative crafts, and both indoor and outdoor fun.

Friday, June 27th - Companion Gardening Day: Companion gardening is a fascinating way to understand how plants can support each other! Just like friends, some plants offer shade to their smaller neighbors, while others, like certain flowers, can naturally deter pests.

This camp day will explore the wonderful synergy of companion gardening and teach our Gardeners In Training about these beneficial plant pairings. We will be planting combinations of companion plants, exploring the greenhouse to discover helpful "companions," and enjoying plenty of indoor and outdoor activities and crafts.

Friday, July 11th - Garden Friends Day: Did you know that some of the best gardeners aren't human? From tiny insects to busy birds, a variety of wildlife can be fantastic helpers in our gardens!

This camp day will delve into the fascinating world of beneficial wildlife and the vital services they provide. We'll uncover how they offer natural pest control, improve soil health, and enrich our garden's biodiversity. Join us for lots of time in the garden, plus fun indoor and outdoor activities.

Friday, July 18th - Pollinator Power Day: Imagine a world without colorful flowers or delicious fruits! Pollinators are the unsung heroes that make this vibrant world possible.

This camp day will explore why pollinators are so incredibly important for the food we eat and the beauty around us. We'll also discover practical ways how we can help pollinators at home, creating havens for these vital creatures. Finally, we'll understand how they fit into our larger ecosystem, playing a crucial role in its balance. Get ready for a buzz-worthy day filled with indoor and outdoor activities and chat with some guest speakers here at Ashcombe!

Friday. July 25th - Sensory Garden Day: Imagine a garden that delights all your senses – the soft touch of velvety leaves, the vibrant colors of blooming flowers, the sweet scent of herbs, the gentle sound of rustling grasses, and even the taste of edible plants!

This Sensory Garden Day is all about exploring the world through touch, sight, smell, sound, and taste. We'll discover how different plants and textures can create a truly immersive experience. Get ready for hands-on activities in the garden, as well as engaging indoor and outdoor fun designed to awaken your senses!
