About this Event

Welcome to the Strengthening Practice Through a Domestic and Family Violence Lens Forum! This forum has been designed for students and professionals who are not DFV Specialists, to further enhance practice and encourage everyone to become DFV-informed. This Forum is taking place during 16 Days of Activism - to find out more about 16 Days, visit the UN Women Australia website: Safe Everywhere Always : Home

This Forum was made possible by:

  • The Disrupting Violence Beacon - Griffith University (Logan Campus)
  • Metro South Health
  • The Centre for Women & Co and Men & Co Services

What to expect:

  • Hear from professionals in Health and Social Services who use a DFV lens in their practice;
  • Examine key ideas, reflections and biases that can influence practice;
  • Explore current issues and challenges;
  • Respond to patients and clients experiencing domestic and family violence.

Speakers:

  • Dr Kaara Ray Calma - perspectives from victim-survivors accessing health services, as well as perspectives from health care professionals.
  • Dr Fiona Baird - on how to be an active bystander.
  • Professor Elena Marchetti
  • Professor Patrick O'Leary
  • Cindy McDowell (Metro South Health) and Kyra Feetham (The Centre for Women & Co and Men & Co Services)
  • A panel discussion of Metro South Health workers, a DFV Specialist and one of the Griffith presenters - a chance for the audience to ask questions from the academic to the frontline!
