Powell Hut Slow Overnight Stay

This is a mid week tramp to beat any rush.
This event is aimed for people wanting to get up to this hut and stay the night as a group but NOT have the stress or pressure to break any speed limits.
The start time is set early to give the maximum amount of walking time to reach the hut destination. Typically it is a 3-4hr walk but even with a huge amount of breaks we will be arriving just in time to have lunch at the top.
There will be regular posted stopping points along the way at Rocky Mt Lookout and again at Mt House Shelter.
You will be in charge of yourself through the trip but we will be there to answer questions and provide the entertainment like always 😊
This is a fully serviced hut with water, gas cooking and a lovely wood burner to heat the hut during our stay.

The walking distance is 7.3km on a well formed track in most parts and formed stairs.
The elevation gain is approximately 500m which brings you to the hut which sits at 1200m above sea level.
