The Smart Cycling Course includes tips and techniques that increase the benefits of vehicular bicycling and stay safe while bicycling.
Vehicular cycling (also known as bicycle driving) is the practice of riding bicycles on roads in a manner that is in accordance with the principles for driving in traffic. The course is two sections. The course combines online instruction with parking lot and on-road practice of vehicular bicycling principles.
Course Description
The Smart Cycling Course begins with the participant completing an online self guided course. It is very helpful for each student to review the Smart Cycling information found at
https://learn.bikeleague.org/p/smartcycling . The Smart Cycling Manual is available for reference for this guided course and can be requested.
Students can opt to just attend the in class portion and the bike skills without receiving certification but must pre register.
On bike skill session begins with a review of causes of crashes and strategies to prevent them. Classroom session is ninety minutes to two hours. Then a review of bike skills will be given with practice before skill scoring. This portion of the course is approximately 2 hours and is limited to six students per LCI.
