Learn all about carving with rotary tools while carving a beautiful natural-finish dolphin from a single piece of butternut wood in this 3-week (9 hour total) course. This workshop is perfect for beginner carvers or those who have been carving with hand tools and want to explore the use of rotary tools. You will start with a bandsawn butternut blank and Cam will guide you through layout, carving and finishing your dolphin. A range of carving cutters, techniques and options for future projects will be discussed as time permits. Questions are always encouraged.
The techniques you learn in this class will be useful for many other carving projects, especially if you already own a rotary tool. You will learn how to use a micromotor rotary tool and the various bits and cutters available for them. Carving, sanding and texturing techniques with the micromotor will be covered, as well as finishing.
The Maple and Bass classroom is a fully-equipped workspace, providing each student with a workstation complete with all the necessary high-quality tools and equipment to finish your project. There's no need to bring your own tools, even if you own them.
The course fee includes a bandsawn blank, all materials and the use of tools and supplies as required. The only thing you need to bring is your desire to carve and learn!
