Billy May is a singer-songwriter based in Eora/Sydney who has been compared to Jeff Buckley, Big Thief and Fiona Apple. Having spent the last few years playing guitar for some of Sydney’s finest acts including Maia Toakley, Mannequin Radio and Ned Olive, he decided to embark on a solo music journey.
He debuted his solo set in June 2024, opening for EBS with Beryl at the Vanguard to a positive response. Since then he has been keeping busy, gigging on lineups with the likes of Georgia Mulligan, Lee Sullivan, Polish Club, Grace Turbo, Beryl, EBS and Heaps Grass to name a few.
Over the summer Billy went into Newtown's 'The Confectionary' with his band to record his debut EP entitled '...to Friendship'. He had recorded there previously for Maia Toakley and worked well with the owner/engineer Charlie Tait. He released three singles off the EP to positive reception and radio play.
On September 13th Billy launched his EP at the very place it was recorded - The Confectionery, to a sold out audience. He spent the rest of the year gigging both solo and with his band, as well as working on and recording new material.
Billy May will be releasing his new single ‘It’s Nice to be Sleeping’ on February 5th before going on a solo tour of Australia’s east coast, performing intimate solo shows between from Melbourne to Brisbane and in between.
