History of The Merchant’s House
The Merchant’s House was built in the mid-17th century (around 1653–1656) as the home of Thomas Bayly, a silk mercer, following the Great Fire of Marlborough. It’s one of the few surviving examples of a middle-class merchant’s house from that period and features fine timber framing, wall paintings and historic interiors
