The Appalachian Spirit Gallery, 144 West Main Street in Marion Va. is now open for the year and has a great night planned for their May 9, 2025 Second Friday ArtWalk. This Artwalk event will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
In addition to a concert by musician Jim Lloyd and an art and fashion exhibit by Max Archibald; the gallery will be displaying and drawing for a quilt being raffled off to support the Smyth County Humane Society.
Musical eclectic, singer, old-time banjo great, public radio host, music teacher, bluegrass rhythm guitarist, storyteller, banjo museum curator, barber of Rural Retreat, Virginia, Jim Lloyd puts his mountain guitar expertise front and center as he performs our concert for the evening. The concert begins at 6 p.m. and is sponsored by the Bank of Marion.
Max Archibald's passion for art was cultivated from high school, attending Lincoln Park’s art program, and continued through his studies in fashion and textile design at Philadelphia University. Additionally, he enriched his creative abilities with hands-on cosmetology training during a two year experience working in a salon.
His artistic inspiration is deeply rooted in the mesmerizing beauty of landscapes and nature, augmented by a profound admiration for surrealism's unique perspectives and the evocative imagery characteristic of Impressionism. Max's creative expression transcends various mediums, including clay, painting, textiles, and even cosmetics. Although his artistic endeavors encompass a diverse range, painting remains his primary focus. His expertise lies in acrylic, watercolor, mixed media, and occasionally oil.
More work on display by all the Appalachian Spirit Gallery members include paintings, executed in oils, watercolors, acrylics, alcohol inks and mixed media; photography, felted works, quilts, baskets, stained glass and more.
