Bittersweet: Dessert and Dissent

Join Culinary Historian Melissa Vickers for a thought-provoking (and delicious!) evening on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at the Old Town House in Marblehead, MA.

This 45-minute presentation explores how ordinary men and women of the 18th and 19th centuries wove abolitionist ideals into daily life—expressing their resistance to slavery through the boycott of goods such as sugar, molasses, cocoa, coffee, and spices. Throughout the evening, guests will enjoy carefully prepared desserts that bring the history to life, including a scrumptious apple pie, a decadent chocolate tart, and richly spiced gingerbread.

The program will conclude with a Q&A discussion. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
