Ryan "Gotto," suffered a reptured carotid artery aneurysm which started as a severe headache. A trip to Unity Point ER resulted in a helicopter ride to UNMC in Omaha for tests and scans where he was diagnosed. Gotto underwent his first procedure to place a drain line on his brain. Later the same day, he underwent a second procedure to fix the aneurysm. Both surgeries surpassed the neurosurgeon expectations.
Unfortunately, a few days later, Gotto developed pneumonia which resulted in sedation and intubation to allow his body to heal. He was able to overcome the pneumonia and is making progress, but remains in the ICU as he is at high risk for another aneurysm, or even a stroke, which his medical team is monitoring very closely.
Recovery will be a very LONG and SLOW process for Gotto, and his family as they adjust to a new normal and get Gotto's noggin in shape.
He will require a minimum of 6 weeks for recovery - another week or so in ICU, then a regular room for a couple weeks and then likely therapy, to what extend we don’t know yet. So for now, we need to take it day by day.
Due to the circumstances both Ryan and his wife, Katie, will be unable to work for an unknown amount of time. With three boys at home, the chores will get done but with the continued medical bills, it could create a strain on the family.
Your help is more than appreciated.
